1939 Red Sox Vs. Yankees Ted Williams Rookie, Lou Gehrig's Final Season Scorecard. The greatest rivalry in professional baseball during baseball's Centennial season makes this an interesting scorecard alone. Add a rookie Ted Williams to the lineup and legendary first baseman Lou Gehrig still on the Yankee Roster and this one is tough to beat. This is the 31st game of Ted's rookie campaign. Ted takes his place in between Hall of famers Jimmie Foxx and Joe Cronin in the lineup walking twice and doubling in three plate appearances. Though the scorecard at center of the provided program is scored it shows Babe Dahlgren freshly taking over first base responsibilities for the weakened Gehrig.   And of course we cant forget jumpin Joe Dimaggio just three years from his rookie season also in the lineup,
