It has been several years since we’ve acquired one of these Rare Highly Desirable Wizard of OZ original vintage lobby cards from the original 1939 Release.   And here is one of the best cards of the set as Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, and Jack Haley are off to see the Wizard, dancing their way down the winding yellow brick road!        

Note:  Another example of this same lobby card sold at auction in 2018 for $7800.   And that card had a fair amount of restoration to correct pinholes, tears and chips from the card.    The card we are offering here had ONLY the signatures removed.

Condition:  Someone wrote four signatures on the card which I immediately knew were Not genuine and hence had them removed with professional restoration.  And that is the only restoration done.  The rest of the card was left in it’s original state.     The card has a vintage sepia patina and a couple light stains and smudges primarily on the bottom border which is a nice added touch of authenticity. I had considered having professional restoration clean the card to brighten the colors, but I decided that with the exception of removing the four ink signatures, to leave it un-restored and let the new owner decide if they want to have this cleaning process done.   But personally I like the authenticity of the vintage patina

Provenance: The back has great provenance with vintage “Savings Bond” stamp and a 1939 date stamp.     Most posters from the late 30s and early 40s were destroyed for the WW2 paper drive efforts.  This card was apparently later used to promote Savings Bonds.

Size:   10.75x13.75.    

Note:  At first I thought this card may have been trimmed; however the borders are perfectly centered and even.  Hence, extensive research revealed it was not unusual for in particular lobby cards from the 1920s and 30s to be slightly smaller than the standard 11x14” like in this case, 10.75x13.75”.

Although not entirely faithful to L. Frank Baum's original novel, Oz has long since become one of the most beloved films in history. This gorgeous card features a shot of one of the movie's most iconic scenes, and has been touched up to correct unauthentic ink signatures.
